The Holiday Season

'Tis the season to be jolly! The Christmas spirit can be seen everywhere in the city. People decorate trees with sparkling lights, hang beautiful boughs on their walls, and sing traditional carols. Religious people visit nativity scenes to commemorate the birth of Christ and attend mass at their local church; other people prefer to take their children to shopping malls to see Santa Claus and his elves. But most people look forward to the Christmas Eve dinner and the Christmas Day gifts!

 

Simple Definitions

- 'tis = contraction of "it is" (old English)

- a bough (n) = a decoration made from tree branches

- a carol (n) = a Christmas song

- a nativity scene (n) = a representation of the birth of Jesus Christ

- mass (n) = a Christian ceremony held in church

(adj) = adjective, (adv) = adverb, (n) = noun, (v) = verb, sth = something, sby = somebody
